Ivan Grocery Store

Ivan Grocery Store

This project is located in the Dehghan Villa district of Karaj, a middle-class residential neighborhood with a growing need for accessible public amenities. The design responds directly to those needs by integrating a daily-use marketplace, a compact shopping center, and multiple open-air cafes and restaurants into a single cohesive complex.

The concept draws inspiration from the spatial logic and character of traditional Persian bazaars. At the heart of the design is a series of grand brick arches that form the main entrance—reminiscent of historic caravanserais—inviting people in with a sense of familiarity and cultural memory. The curved brick and turquoise-tiled forms break the monotony of typical commercial blocks, adding softness and local identity to the street edge.

An elevated outdoor terrace activates the roof with seating, greenery, and shaded zones, extending the public space vertically and offering room for social interaction beyond the commercial functions. The circulation is clear and open, allowing visitors to move comfortably between the shopping zones, food areas, and pedestrian pathways.

The project aims to create not just a retail hub, but a vibrant civic space—something that belongs to its neighborhood in both function and spirit.
